Windows.

Windows, though straightforward as they seem, are actually relatively complex structures. Although somewhat of an oxymoron, the complexity lies not in it's structure but in it's symbolism. There is nothing better than just sitting by a window and watching the world go by. As a group or an individual walks by, it's almost like the window acts as a frame for that one moment in time. Whether a family running past with children and animals or a couple briskly arguing as they stop and start along the street, the window captures that moment and allows the imagination an opportunity to decipher the story. Perhaps, even make presumptions as to what is going on in people's lives and likely seldom getting it right.

Looking into a window, however, means something different to all of us. The thought of people looking into a window is an uncomfortable thought for some. Looking into a window provides a snap shot into the soul of a home. To draw the curtains over a window provides privacy and security that nobody is able to look into the goings on in your home. Decorating your window with ornaments, plants or expensive lamps ensures that those walking by find your home aesthetically appealing and eye catching. Those who leave their curtains and/or windows open want the sights and sounds of the street to linger into their home life, destitute of barriers. Our windows provide us with an opportunity to manufacture an image, thus allowing those who pass our abode, to make assumptions on us based on that very image.

Perhaps, the way that we perceive windows can be reflected in our personalities. Perhaps, they cannot only act as windows into our homes but as windows into our souls. Therefore, as we gaze our eyes through one of the many complex glass structures in our homes, we can cast our eye upon those who cast an eye upon us. We can make presumptions over those whom presume. We can base our assumptions upon what we are faced with: always looking through the window but rarely looking at it.

I'm an Ambassador of the Future

Courage? What is courage? Courage is normally defined as the spirit within us that enables us to face dangers, trials or pains without fear. For the purposes of this blog, let me direct you to the following film clip:

In the movie "Coach Carter", the coach has just made a decision to halt the basketball season as the players have fallen behind on their grades. He will not allow it to go ahead until the players have done what they are supposed to do. This decision is unheard of. Making big decisions are never easy: they make us anxious; stressed and doubtful. In his speech, Timo is telling us that we should not be afraid to show who we really are at the risk of offending others. The only person you are cheating by concealing who you are.. is yourself.

Fear is not of or from God but instead is something we manifest in ourselves. An obstacle will never be placed in front of us that we cannot handle. Sometimes failing is easier than succeeding in order to fit in with the rest of the world. If we all chose to sit back and take the easy road, there would be no greatness, there would be no nobel peace prize winner, there would be no hero. You can achieve greatness if you maintain the same belief in yourself that God has in you.

By letting our own light shine, we often liberate those around us. Too often, we dumb ourselves down or hide our talents for fear of making those around us feel insecure. It's easier to attract attention for the wrong reasons than for the right ones, right? Let your light shine! We are all beautiful people with a lot to offer and we shouldn't be afraid to display our God given gifts at the risk of offending others.

What I wanted to achieve by your reading this is to have courage to be the person that you want to be. We are all ambassadors of the future, having the courage to let your light shine will ensure that it is bright.

Being young does not make you less powerful or less important. We are all a part of tomorrow. So have courage in all that you do and let your light shine for all to see.

Youth Power/Inherent Ignorance

"How beautiful is youth! How bright it gleams with its illusions, aspirations, dreams! Book of Beginnings, Story without End, Each maid a heroine and each man a friend." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Youth is an exciting period in ones life. It's a time when the boundaries being pushed are okay and the search for ones true self is deep and painful yet hilariously chaotic and mesmerising. Our future ahead of us, we stand in the field of opportunities. There are no past regrets or mistakes, there are only future success stories and bright aspirations. Why then, do many youth choose to stand at the gate, scared to enter the confines of uncomfortable and cease the opportunity? The future doesn't write itself, it needs you to orchestrate it.
